Abbeyside FC U11s Match Review

AFC 6-2 Villa FC

A true footballing festival at Dogleaf Park Abbeyside for the 1st game of the U11’s season and the start of the league, and it’s happening with an extraordinarily young set of players that have not been seen in Abbeyside with generations.

Harry Keohan 6th minute opener always looked like it was coming. Abbeyside submitted the visitors to such a constant barrage of attacking attempts that one was bound to go in eventually. A long through ball from Michael and the skillful young striker was on the end of it in a flash and that was the 1st of his two goals.

Dogleaf supports were still celebrating that goal when Conor Hehir gave them another to cherish. In a near-replica of the first, this time it was Darcy Hayes that looked up and provided an incredible pass, and the young man from AbbeyGardens made no mistake with his right-footed finish in the Top corner and the same as Harry it would be his 1st of two goals.

Villa did give something for or backline to think about at times but the Abbeyside young men kept their formation and the opposition would need a battering ram to get anywhere near the goal at times from or solid back and safe hand keepers. Michael Duggan added to the Dogleaf festivities just before the interval by being the most alert in a goalmouth scramble and bounding an unstoppable strike in-off the top of the right post with the cheers from the fans that could be heard in Dungarvan.

Shortly after the 30min mark, Villa defense failing to get rid of danger in their area and succumbing to a nicely-struck finish by a well-positioned Freddie Crotty who ran his socks of throughout the game, and with that commitment was destined to score.

The kind of football these kids are playing is the kind that achieves big things. The 2024/25 season is shaping up very nicely indeed. And all parents and Supports should be proud of everyone of these kids.

The perfect start to the O’Donnell lads (Joe, Johnny and Mark) as Abbeyside U11s head coaches, and things are looking very, very sweet indeed for Abbeyside Academy and fans right now!

Harry Keohan = 2

Conor Hehir = 2

Michael Duggan = 1

Freddie Crotty = 1
